Chris & Char’s Cosy Winter Wedding in Motueka

Who says winter weddings can’t be magic? Chris and Char’s June wedding was proof that a few dark clouds are no match for a whole lot of love.

I’ve known these two for years. They used to run F45, where I sweated through more burpees than I’d like to admit, and Char later booked me for her friend’s maternity shoot. So when she asked me to be their Motueka wedding photographer, I was thrilled.

The ceremony took place in the gardens of the Woodlands Care Centre, with a lovely small group of their nearest and dearest gathered close. The sky looked moody, but the rain politely held off until after they said their “I Dos’, leaving us with that gorgeous soft winter light photographers dream about.

Then came the moments. Char’s Dad seeing her for the first time had me taking deep breaths behind the camera so I wouldn’t cry. Then Chris saw her walking down the aisle, and, well, there wasn’t a dry eye anywhere. Their dog Teddy made it very clear he was part of the wedding party too, thank you very much.

After portraits at Thorp Bush, we headed to the Village Cafe for the reception. The rain finally arrived, but nobody cared. And the biggest surprise of the day? Their wedding cake was secretly a gender reveal! Nobody had a clue until they cut it and found pink inside. Cue the happy chaos!

Char and Chris summed it up best in their review: “She captured all the important moments and the ones you didn’t know were occurring.” That’s exactly what I love doing.
