Rabbit Island Family Photoshoot - A reunion with Nicky & co

I recently had the joy of photographing Nicky, Mark, their daughter Thea, and their newest little addition, baby Max, for a warm and joy-filled Rabbit Island family photoshoot. I photographed this lovely family two years ago, so it was incredibly special to see how much Thea has grown — and to meet baby Max for the first time. Sessions like this remind me why I love family photography so much: watching families evolve and capturing the beautiful, real moments in between.

Although most people think of the long stretches of beach when they imagine a Rabbit Island family photoshoot, this session actually unfolded just across the causeway on Rough Island. The summer sun was already bright on this Monday morning, so we tucked ourselves into the pine forest for some soft shade and a relaxed, comfortable setting for the kids.

The vibe of the shoot was pure playfulness. Much of the morning was spent happily chasing Thea through the trees as she explored, darted, and giggled her way around the forest. Meanwhile, baby Max was full of smiles — his little giggles were contagious and added so much sweetness to the session. My favourite challenge with energetic little ones is working quickly and staying connected, which always results in those authentic, fleeting moments parents treasure most.

One of the standout moments from the session was capturing a full family photo — something that often requires a bit of speed and a lot of laughter when kids are excited and on the move. But we got it! These real, unscripted moments are exactly what make a Rabbit Island family photoshoot feel so genuine and memorable.

What I loved most about this session was how relaxed and comfortable everyone felt. My approach is always to connect with the kids first, help them feel at ease, and create space for families to simply be themselves. When children are free to explore and play, it allows me to photograph your family exactly as you are — joyful, connected, and perfectly imperfect.

If you’re dreaming of your own Rabbit Island family photoshoot, whether on the beach, in the forest, or somewhere in between, I’d love to help you capture this chapter of your family story in the most natural and heartfelt way.
