Vickie’s Rabbit Island Empowerment Photoshoot

There’s something special about Rabbit Island: the salt in the air, the endless stretch of sand, the soft roar of the waves. It’s one of my favourite places for empowerment photography in Nelson, and the Rabbit Island empowerment photoshoot has become a signature experience for women wanting to reconnect with themselves in nature.

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing Vickie out on the beach, and honestly, she blew me away. From the moment she arrived, her confidence filled the space. She moved with purpose and grace, full of ideas and energy. You could instantly tell she’s a dancer; every pose created these breathtaking lines and shapes, like art in motion.

As the session unfolded, the light turned golden and soft with that perfect evening glow that makes everything feel magical. We finished in the surf, with waves washing over her and the sun kissing her skin. The resulting images are some of my favourites yet: raw, powerful, and beautifully feminine. In those moments, she looked like a literal goddess, fully in her element.
