C&L’s Mapua Backyard Wedding

There’s something incredibly special about weddings held at home. There’s a familiarity, with so many memories woven into the space. You get a relaxed atmosphere that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else! C and Lauren’s Mapua backyard wedding was a perfect reflection of all of that and more.

Set at the property Lauren grew up on in Mapua, their wedding felt deeply personal from the moment guests arrived. With just 43 loved ones gathered for a spring afternoon celebration, the day carried an intimate and joyful energy that suited Chris and Lauren’s laid-back, happy vibe perfectly.

The ceremony took place in the garden overlooking a peaceful lake - such dreamy backdrop for their vows. Lauren’s Mum had spent so much time preparing the garden for the day. It was such a heartfelt labour of love that made the setting feel even more meaningful.

Personal touches were woven throughout the styling. Handmade candles decorated reception tables, while Lauren’s dress, lovingly created by a neighbour, added another layer of sentimentality. Their golden retriever Oakley was an undeniable highlight, charming guests and being the absolute best boy. Yes, he got lots of pats!

Friends and family played important roles in bringing everything together. Celebrant and family friend Rose Barnes led a warm and heartfelt ceremony before stepping into MC duties, while Amber from Evermore Florists created florals that complemented the garden setting beautifully. Catering by Under the Hood kept the relaxed vibe flowing, with guests enjoying outdoor seating in surprisingly warm spring sunshine.

There were emotional moments too - including Lauren’s brother flying in from Germany to be present - reminders that the day was ultimately about connection, family, and shared history.

As golden hour approached, we slipped away for sunset portraits near the water at Ruby Bay. The light was so beautifully soft, and we created some magic as the sky turned pink. Such a lovely way to end the day!

C and Lauren’s wedding was proof that the most meaningful celebrations don’t need grand venues or elaborate plans. Sometimes, all you need is a beautiful backyard, your closest people, and a day that feels authentically you.
